As I’m here in Afghanistan for a year – or more – I really look forward to “The First Shot”. What a great piece of home to read over. Looking forward to being back on the line at Perry in ’07!!

I'm an older shooter with bum eyes but I still like to shoot, enjoy the competition and the competitors. I hope to get these eyes fixed and see
everyone again at Perry2006. Also, I enjoy TFS. Keep 'em coming.
Thanks, G. H.

A year ago I read a CMP ad in a magazine and decided to check out your web
site. I was impressed with the quality of the site and the information provided.
I drove to Camp Perry to check the NM action first hand and was impressed with
the "Opening Shot" ceremonies. While visiting the vendors booths I purchased a
shooters jacket, glove, pad, and two M1's from the CMP store. The last time I
shot an M1 was 45 years ago at Cherry Point, NC where I was a coach and
instructor on the rifle range. Thanks for the help and information you provided
to reactivate my interest in the shooting sports. At 67 years young it's never
to late!!

Thanks for another great update!

I enjoyed reading the Double Distinguised article.
Well written and inspirational.

2006-2007 CMP Scholarship for JROTC and ROTC Rifle Shooters
By Sommer Wood, Staff Writer/Editor
|
Being part of a JROTC or ROTC rifle team is not only a good way for a cadet to gain the tools needed to bring them success in college such as character, discipline and responsibility; competitive shooting can also help provide the financial means needed to attend college. One way a cadet can receive money for college is to earn a rifle scholarship on an NCAA Rifle team. A second opportunity for a cadet to earn a college rifle scholarship is through the Civilian Marksmanship Scholarship Program for JROTC and ROTC rifle shooters.
Since the 2000-2001 collegiate academic year, CMP has offered one hundred $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors and college underclassmen who excel in rifle marksmanship, are enrolled in JROTC or ROTC and have excellent academic and leadership records. This program is available to Army, Navy and Marine Corps JROTC and ROTC cadets through agreements with the U.S. Army Cadet Command, the U.S. Naval Education and Training Command and the USMC Training and Education Command, and has helped many athletes ease the financial demands of college.
Cadets interested in applying for the scholarship must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a four-year college or university that offers ROTC. They must also participate on a NCAA, ROTC or College Club Rifle Team. The annual scholarship can be renewed by the cadet for up to four years provided they maintain the scholarship requirements and submit an application form each year.
The 2006-2007 application forms and requirements are now posted on the CMP website at http://www.odcmp.com/Programs/Scholarship.htm. The deadline for Army and USMC applicants is March 1, 2006 and for Navy applicants it is March 7, 2006. If you have questions, please contact the CMP Affiliate Relations Department (419-635-2141, ext. 1109, email programs@odcmp.com) or the appropriate Army, Navy or Marine Corps Command.
The Civilian Marksmanship Program is proud to provide this scholarship program for JROTC and ROTC cadets who excel in rifle marksmanship, and hopes to see many applicants for the 2006-2007 school year.
