I'm an older shooter with bum eyes but I still like to shoot, enjoy the competition and the competitors. I hope to get these eyes fixed and see everyone again at Perry2006. Also, I enjoy TFS. Keep 'em coming.

A year ago I read a CMP ad in a magazine and decided to check out your web site. I was impressed with the quality of the site and the information provided. I drove to Camp Perry to check the NM action first hand and was impressed with the "Opening Shot" ceremonies. While visiting the vendors booths I purchased a shooters jacket, glove, pad, and two M1's  from the CMP store. The last time I shot an M1 was 45 years ago at Cherry Point, NC where I was a coach and instructor on the rifle range. Thanks for the help and information you provided to reactivate my interest in the shooting sports. At 67 years young it's never to late!!

Thanks for another great update!

Top 100 Leg Match Scores for 2005

By Gary Anderson, DCM

Evan Hess, a nineteen-year-old junior from Mt. Pleasant, Texas fired a 494-21X score earlier this year to place him on top of the 2005 Top 100 EIC Service Rifle List.
With the start of the new year, all scores from 2005 leg matches should be reported, posted and ranked. This means it is possible to recognize the shooters who fired the top service rifle and pistol scores during the past year. The CMP’s Competition Tracker competition management system now tracks top 100 scores from service rifle and pistol Excellence-in-Competition or “leg” matches throughout the year and lists of the 2005 Top 100 leg match scores are now essentially complete.

To see who made the Top 100 pistol and rifle lists for 2005, open http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi and then click on the year “2005” for either the “top EIC rifle scores” or the “top EIC pistol scores.”

Evan Hess, a 19-year-old junior from Mount Pleasant, Texas fired the top rifle EIC score in 2005. He scored 494-21X at the Golden Triangle Gun Club EIC Match in March. Christopher Metildi from Nashua, New Hampshire, also had a 494, but with 16Xs. In 2004, the top rifle EIC score was a 494-18X fired by Konrad Powers of Carol Steam, Illinois. The 100th place score in 2005 was a 483-12X; the 100th place score in 2004 was a 482-14X.

Both Hess and Metildi are Distinguished Riflemen. The top score fired by a Non-Distinguished shooter in 2005 was a 491-17X by Sam Ohlinger of Lockbourne, Ohio. Ohlinger’s scores ranked tenth overall on the Top 100 list

SSG Adam Sokolowski, a member of the USAMU Pistol Team, was the top EIC Pistol Shooter for 2005.
The top pistol EIC score last year was a 293-14X total posted by SSG Adam Sokolowski, a member of the U. S. Army Pistol Team. The number two pistol score was fired by Richard Kang of Delmar, Maryland, who had a 293-10X. The leading 2004 pistol EIC score was a 293-16X by SSG James Henderson from Festus, Missouri. The 100th place score in 2005 was a 275-5X; in 2004, it was a 276-5X.

The best pistol EIC score fired by a Non-Distinguished shooter was a 280-8X fired by Susan Fries of Laingsburg, Michigan. This score placed 49th on the overall pistol list.

The Competitor Tracker EIC Top 100 lists include both Distinguished and Non-Distinguished shooters and show the status of the shooter on the day the score was fired. New 2006 Top 100 lists will be compiled as soon as scores are reported from 2006 EIC matches. Shooters who fire outstanding scores in more than one leg match can make the list more than one time if their scores rank in the top 100. The purpose of these lists is not only to recognize the shooters with the best EIC match scores, but also to encourage more shooters, both Distinguished and Non-Distinguished, to compete in these matches.

The prestigious Distinguished Rifleman Badge and Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge is awarded to service rifle and pistol shooters who earn a total of 30 or more points in rifle EIC (“Leg”) matches.
EIC matches are especially important matches for competitive shooters because that is where they can earn credit points that count towards the awarding of Distinguished Rifleman and Distinguished Pistol Shot Badges. In each EIC match, the top 10 percent of all Non-Distinguished shooters receive 10, 8 or 6 credit points, depending upon how many competitors there are and how they place. When a shooter has 30 points, the badge is awarded. Each year, Non-Distinguished shooters are limited to three EIC matches plus the National Trophy Individual Match at Camp Perry. In addition, Non-Distinguished shooters who have not earned any EIC points can also fire in the M16 EIC or a new M9 EIC matches at Camp Perry where shooters can earn an one-time-only “introductory” 4-point leg.

If you want more information, the CMP Competition Tracker web page at http://clubs.odcmp.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi not only has links to the top 100 EIC lists, but it also offers lists of “Upcoming EIC Matches,” results from EIC matches that have been fired and comprehensive lists of all Distinguished shooters from 1884 to the present.
