Enhanced Competition Tracker Now Providing Greater Access to Excellence-In-Competition Information

By Steve Cooper, CMP Marketing Manager

CAMP PERRY, OHIO – As the new version of the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Competition Tracker continues to unfold, competitors are gaining access to more information and utilities than ever before.

Competition Tracker (CT) is a database-driven computer program that houses and maintains all of the CMP’s shooter records, including names and addresses, match results and historical information about all of CMP’s competitions including airgun, pistol and highpower matches.

The CMP has customized its tracking program by providing two tiers of access. The first tier displays a dashboard which gives the general public or entry-level users information about upcoming matches, clinics and results. It also provides information about CMP-affiliated clubs and lists of Distinguished shooters.

The second tier is username and password protected and allows competitors to view their personal information such as name, address, telephone numbers, email and other sensitive information. CT has always housed that information in the past but CMP employees were the only persons allowed to change personal information, by request.

By registering as a CT user, shooters who participate in the Excellence-In-Competition (EIC) program can now, at a glance, see their recent shooting history on one page, making it easier to track their progress toward earning a Distinguished Pistol, Rifle or International Shooter Badge. In addition, their shooting records will remain on the database indefinitely. In the past, once a shooter reached the Distinguished level, their competition history ceased to exist.

In the past, shooters wanting to know their results in previous matches needed to research each match individually via separate searches. Now that information will be housed in an individual’s record.

This latest phase of Competition Tracker was installed in the Fall of 2012, but a great deal of testing and verification needed to be done to insure the integrity of the EIC information. Because accuracy is of paramount importance, it has been the CMP’s mission to make sure that each shooter’s information is correct.

What may be a secondary benefit of the new CT EIC to competitors is the speed at which EIC points can be entered into the system for display online. The process of verifying scores at an EIC match and getting that information online has taken a significant leap forward with the recent system upgrade. In the past, several days may have passed prior to scores being verified and EIC points posted.

Once a rifle competitor becomes Distinguished, their record will show a superscript “R” next to their name. Likewise, if they leg out in pistol, a superscript “P” will be added to their record. Anyone viewing the EIC match results will easily see who is single or double Distinguished.

To view match and shooter information on Competition Tracker, simply log onto www.TheCMP.org and click on the Competition Tracker link. If you like the option of being able to update your personal information and see your match results and EIC points progress, registering will only take a few moments.
