Reader Comments:

In reference to your article "Sniper School Comes To Iraq", the 173rd Airborne Brigade operated a sniper school in Bihn Dihn Province, Viet Nam, as late as 1970.

We received several comments, like the one above, regarding the Sniper story that we posted. We have revised it thanks to your comments.

Enjoy it very much.  Especially happy to hear about the improvements at Camp Perry.  They are long over due.

Thank you for some good news.  The pictures really spice it up.  I'm so happy to see these improvements.  It really does show commitment to the matches.  It was always so depressing to see things crumbling and the old mess hall laying in ruins.  This is great.
See you at the matches, RW

An excellent article about taking sniper training to Iraq. Thank you for sending me this information.

At the end of our regular smallbore season (September - March), we keep the doors open for Scouts through the month of April. This works out great because we have all the equipment necessary for the Scouts (rifles, ammunition, shooting mats, coaches and of course facilities). Basically, all the Scouts have to do is show up. The also works as a good recruiter program to get kids involved in the our marksmanship program and the shooting sports. I encourage other clubs to keep the doors open at the end of the season and help the Scouts out.

We at San Gabriel Valley Junior Gun Club, member #062022, have many Boy Scout Troops shooting for their Rifle Merit Badges.

2004-2005 CMP ROTC Scholarship Winners Announced

Cody Cleland (shown on the left), is graduating from Bogalusa High School in Louisiana with a 3.96 grade average.  He was one of 85 CMP ROTC Scholarship winners.  Cleland is shown here with Tarl Kempley after the 2003 American Legion National Junior Championship where he won the sporter class championship and Kemply won the precision class championship.  Cleland was a member of the Bogalusa High School Army JROTC Rifle Team that won the 2004 National JROTC Air Rifle Championship Sporter Class Team Championship.
The U. S. Army Cadet Command, Marine Corps Training and Education Command and Naval Education and Training Command, in cooperation with the CMP, recently completed their selections of the CMP ROTC Scholarship winners for the 2004-2005 academic year. 85 one-thousand dollar scholarships will be awarded by the CMP to JROTC and ROTC cadets who will be college ROTC students in the next academic year.

Scholarship winners are selected by the cadet commands and CMP on the basis of academic and leadership records and accomplishments in competitive rifle marksmanship. Scholarship winners must enroll in college ROTC this fall to receive their scholarships. Recipients may apply to renew their scholarships if they continue their excellent academic and ROTC records and compete in college as a member of a college varsity, club or ROTC rifle team.

For more information on the CMP ROTC Scholarship Program, see the scholarship regulations that are posted on the CMP web site or contact the CMP at tel. 419-635-2141, etc. 1111 or email programs@odcmp.com. The 2004-2005 scholarship winners and their current schools are listed below.
