Two-time Olympic Gold-Medalist Gary Anderson to Attend Range Dedication Ceremony of
Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center

CAMP PERRY, Ohio – The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) invites men, women and children of all ages to attend a Dedication Ceremony of its newly-expanded Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center, located in historic Camp Perry in Port Clinton, Ohio. The Range Dedication Ceremony will take place Monday, July 7th, at approximately 11:00AM (following the First Shot Ceremony). Join us as we tour the modern architecture and flowing walkways, glass cases of authentic Olympic memorabilia and the advanced technology of our indoor air gun range within the multi-million dollar complex.

Guests of Honor at the event will include the mayor of Port Clinton, Vincent Leone; CMP Board Chairman, Mrs. Judith Legerski; as well as the range’s namesake, Mr. Gary Anderson.

Display cases featuring prominent moments in Anderson’s life and career are scattered throughout the common area of the building. Various medals, Olympic outfits, photos and even a piece of the Berlin Wall can be seen behind the glass.

Anderson is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and holds seven World Championships and 16 National Championships during his competitive marksmanship career. He also served as one of two Olympic Games Technical Delegates for Shooting during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. That same year, the International Olympic Committee awarded Anderson the Olympic Order – its highest honor – on display within CMP’s new Competition Center.

His devoted wife, Ruth Ann, has been by his side throughout his impressive career and will join her husband as the CMP honors his insatiable and extraordinary dedication to junior marksmanship programs through its new Competition Center.

Following opening remarks, a ribbon cutting ceremony featuring a small gathering of Anderson’s grandchildren and junior marksmen will assemble on the main walkway in front of the $1.1 million Competition Center expansion. With a snip of the scissors, guests will be welcomed through the automatic sliding glass doors for a champagne and sparkling juice toast and cupcake table in the reception area of the facility.

Gary and Ruth Ann Anderson will be present at the dedication of the CMP’s latest expansion – the Gary Anderson Competition Center.

Once inside, a special Dedication Target painting will be unveiled. The Dedication Target was created by artist Jerry Antolik. The painting will join Antolik’s other works of art in the building, including the large mural that merges Camp Perry events of past and present, featured on the entire south wall of the air range.

After the ceremonial activities conclude, all guests are invited to participate in a Dedication Prize Shoot within the CMP’s state-of-the-art air range. The light-weight and easy-to-fire air rifles used in the competition center will be provided by the CMP. Participants will fire five shots upon the range’s electronic targets. First-time shooters and experienced shooters alike are encouraged to take part in this fun and exciting challenge.

All guests are invited to take part in a Dedication Prize Shoot. Mr. Anderson will pick x/y coordinates in advanced (will not be in the exact center) and the person closest to the coordinates will win a Winchester M1 Carbine. The Competition Center will be open until 7PM so that Pistol SAFS students have an opportunity to take part in the Prize Shoot.

A Grand Prize will be awarded to the overall shooter closest to predetermined x/y coordinates. The main prize for the Dedication Prize Shoot will be a Winchester M1 Carbine, SN 5741019, with the receiver engraved “Bavaria Forest Police,”  that is being donated by Gary and Ruth Ann Anderson.  All participants in the prize shoot will shoot 5 shots and the shooter with the shot that comes closes to predesignated x/y coordinates (will not be in the exact center) will win the Carbine.  Other prizes will also be awarded during the shoot.

The new $1.1 million Competition Center houses a state-of-the-art air gun range, classrooms, reception and common areas, a retail store, as well as numerous large-screen television sets and projector screens for the viewing pleasure of guests.

All participants in the match will receive a free printout of their scores, imprinted with the Dedication Target painting, which Anderson will be happy to sign. The air range will remain open until 7 p.m., to accommodate any shooters in the Small Arms Firing School who would also like a chance to fire in the prize shoot.

The Dedication is free and open to the public. We hope everyone will help us celebrate this historic day in CMP and youth marksmanship history.
