Few Remaining Slots Available as Advanced Adult Remington-Bushmaster Highpower Clinic Begins to Fill Up

By Steve Cooper, CMP Writer

CAMP PERRY, OHIO – If you’re looking for the missing links to shooting well in competitive highpower service rifle, you’ll be hard-pressed to find better instruction, especially on the eve of the rifle phase of the 2011 National Matches. The clinic begins at 8 a.m., Friday, 29 July at the Camp Perry clubhouse conference center at the northeast corner of the training site.

Sponsored by CMP, the Advanced Adult Remington-Bushmaster Highpower Clinic, taught by retired U.S. Marine Ken Roxburgh and his team of top shooters from Remington-Bushmaster, will get you squared away with advanced instruction in service rifle competition techniques.
Retired Marine Corps GySgt Ken Roxburgh, director of highpower shooting at Remington, explains the importance of the sling when firing in the sitting position at the 2010 Advanced Adult Clinic.

The advanced adult clinic parallels the USMC Junior Service Rifle Clinic that is offered for junior competitors. A team of expert service rifle shooters and coaches that comprise the Remington-Bushmaster Team will lead this special clinic on service rifle shooting that begins with classroom instruction and offers a full day of instruction and dry fire work and drills.
The Remington-Bushmaster Advanced Adult Highpower Clinic begins indoors with instruction at the Camp Perry Clubhouse then moves to Petrarca Range for practical dry-firing exercises.

The clinic concludes with an expert shooter panel discussion on Sunday morning. There will be no live firing during the clinic, but it will conclude in time for all clinic students to participate in the squadded practice on Rodriguez Range at Camp Perry.

Roxburgh is a former Staff Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of the USMC Shooting Teams and he currently serves as Director of Remington’s Highpower Programs. Roxburgh’s no-nonsense, Marine Corps-inspired teaching technique will keep students on their toes, but each will walk away with some of the finest competitive service rifle tools available to the civilian shooting community.

The Remington-Bushmaster Advanced Adult Highpower Clinic class of 2010 took time for a group photo at the conclusion of last year’s session. Shooters came away from the clinic with new insights on competitive highpower service rifle marksmanship.

The clinic includes classroom instruction and intensively-coached dry-firing practice. The following subjects will be covered during this course:

• Rifle Safety and Weapons Handling
• Aiming and Trigger Control
• Techniques of Slow and Rapid Firing
• Effects of Weather
• Zeroing the Service and Match Rifles
• Advanced Wind Reading
• The Data Book
• The Prone Position
• The Sitting Position
• The Standing Position
• Dry Firing, Match Etiquette
• Team Shooting
• Courses of Fire
• Care and Use of Match Equipment
• Assembly/Disassembly of Match Rifles and Maintenance
• Care and Cleaning of Match Rifles
