Major Changes Set for 2014-2015 National Match Schedules

By Ashley Brugnone, CMP Writer

CAMP PERRY, OH – Modifications have been made to the 2014-2015 National Match schedules to prepare for the inclusion of the World PALMA Rifle Championships, being held at Camp Perry in 2015. Teams participating in the Championships will also be traveling to Camp Perry in 2014 to shoot a “rehearsal” match, causing some scheduling conflicts at the ranges.
The PALMA rehearsal matches will begin on August 3 and will run through August 10 in 2014. To accommodate, some popular National Match events had to be moved to a different date or alternative location. Regular match goers should become familiar with the changes in order to plan accordingly.

For the 2014 National Matches, the NRA Smallbore will be fired in Bristol, IN, not at Camp Perry, as in previous years. The CMP Rimfire Sporter Match will move from its usual date to Saturday, August 2, while the Rifle SAFS will take place on Tuesday, July 15. The 2015 schedule will include similar alterations.

“Unfortunately, to assist the NRA in becoming host to the World Championships, we had to rearrange the National Match schedule. We feel very privileged that we are able to help the PALMA Championships become a part of the history here at Camp Perry,” said Christie Sewell, general manager of CMP North.

The PALMA Match was first held in September 1876, at Creedmoor Range in Long Island, NY. Competitors traveled from Australia, Canada, Ireland, Scotland and the United States. The United States team won that first match.

Since then, 27 official competitions have been held, with participation growing to several teams from around the world and representation from five continents.

Past PALMA Championships have been held in Australia, England, South Africa, Canada and New Zealand. A match has not been held in the United States in over 20 years, making the PALMA Council’s decision for the 2015 event a true honor for Camp Perry.

Questions on the schedule changes for the 2014-2015 National Matches can be answered by contacting Shannon Hand at shand@thecmp.org or 419-635-2141 ext. 1101. More information of the World PALMA Championships can be found at http://www.palma.org.
