JROTC Air Rifle Postal Competition to Begin October 1

photo

The 2014-2015 JROTC Postal Competition will officially open on Oct. 1, 2014 for young cadets in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force JROTC programs who would like to go score-to-score in this three-position match with other talented shooters across the nation.

To compete, registered participants will each receive three targets and instructions for recording scores. Shooters will fire in each of the three positions (prone, standing, kneeling) at their home ranges – using one target for each position. Once record shots are fired, shooters will return the targets to CMP for scoring.

As in years past, CMP staff members will verify scores using the Orion Visual Image Scoring system. Results will be posted within Competition Tracker for teams and individuals to check during the postal season.

Larry and Brenda Potterfield have again provided incredible donations to the JROTC Championships. This year, Mr. and Mrs. Potterfield will donate over $400,000 through generous endowments offered through the MidwayUSA Foundation to winning teams and individuals. The MidwayUSA Foundation is a public charity that helps communities and organizations raise funds to support their youth shooting teams and activities.

Dates to note for the 2014-2015 JROTC Postal Competition:
•           Oct. 1, 2014 – Online Registration Opens
•           Nov. 19, 2014 – Online Registration Closes
•           Dec. 5, 2014 – Targets must be received by CMP for scoring (Late targets will not be scored.)
•           Dec. 10 – Preliminary Results Posted
•           Dec. 12 – All scores final (Protests cannot be made after 8 a.m.)

Last year, over 8,025 JROTC shooters participated in the Postal Match with hopes of recording scores high enough to reach the Regional JROTC Service Championships. This year’s Regionals will be held in three locations: Anniston, AL; Camp Perry, OH; and a Western location, yet to be determined. Nationals will follow at Camp Perry, OH, for all service branches.
