Fat Squirrels and Ranch Food

By Mike Wallace

CMP Board Chairman Charlie Maddox and I actually have one thing in common--neither of us likes to venture North in November. In our chosen state of residency, Florida, shorts are considered winter attire. So the thought of traveling to a conference in Colorado Springs had me searching my closet for warm clothes.

Postcard to Charlie: The Olympic Center is an incredible facility, the people at the conference were friendly, and the nights didn't get below 40 degrees. I've also never seen fatter squirrels. Bob Foth said they were getting ready for winter. I had a fraternity brother back in college who would have said they were getting ready for the stew pot.

Some photos from the conference:

One fat squirrel. You could almost hear the tree groan under the weight.

What to do when there's no snow--downhill lawn skiing.

Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Maybe I will get that air rifle for Christmas.

Hawaii State Junior Director Zig Look (right) and some guy from Iowa who wanted his picture in The First Shot. Zig had to cross
only 18 time zones to get from Hawaii to Colorado. It shows.

Every time Dr. Farnsworth flashed this
flag, we had a test. I wonder if Pavlov's
dog ever bit his master.

Some people don't believe I'm a reporter.
"I'll have a Big Mac, and he'll have the
Happy Meal."

Larry and Erin--"I count 29 3's. How
many do you have?"

Hooray, it's Christie Prentice's, um, 29th birthday. Christie is the CMP Competition Manager.

Saturday night's entertainment at the Flying W Ranch--the Flying W Wranglers. It was old time country-western--they even had a band member who yodeled.

The Wranglers understood their audience. They closed with "God Bless the U.S.A."--and got a standing ovation.
