Based on what I've read from the previous four gazillion posts on the carbines over the past 3 days, I think I can answer for Orest.
1. CMP is not prepared to release the number of carbines available. 2. CMP is not ready to tell people what the grades are. 3. CMP is not ready to even "ballpark" a price. 4. CMP does not currently have carbine magazines. 5. CMP plans to release the rifles in the near future. 6. CMP has not determined any purchase limits yet. 6. CMP will tell you the details when they are ready.
Orest, did I miss anything...... |

| If the CMP don't know what they have or what the prices may be do you think they know if they come with slings? |

| not a problem, enjoy. No slings received with the carbines, but that does not mean that we will not get any. Have to wait and see. |

| I have never seen so much brown nosing going on in my life! It seems to me that a few think that if they suck up to Orest by belittling other posters questions, he may remember them and 'hook them up' with a nice carbine or might send them a correct grade Garand signed by Audie Murphy!! Geez, some of you remind me of a bunch of kindergarten tattle tales playing up to the teacher. I think a few others are just excited about the news. All Mr. Nuetron asked was if they also picked up any slings. |

Give what a break?...that was a good natured banter to whoever might be 'offended' by it. Mine was in no way a personal attack. Don't worry, your Audie Murphy custom correct grade Garand is still on its way...Oh yeah, and the Omar Bradley autographed c-clip carbine sling is on its way...sorry but I hear they are not going to send a certificate of authenticity! CHEERS!! |

OK Class pay attention: quote: This CMP Forum provides a way to ask questions, receive answers and share experiences with others. We ask everyone to be courteous to others (no flames), not use profanity, avoid political discussions, and keep topics relevant to the CMP mission. Thank You and Enjoy!!!
I do believe that OREST is doing his darn best to give us all the info that he can give about the carbines. Almost every gun (and some knife) forums I've been to is abuzz with talk about CMP's impending sales of M1 Carbines. I am going to have an order blank ready to send in, for 1 Carbine, and I will just have to wait until CMP tells me (on the website or by mass e-mail) how much, what grade, you know, all the information that Orest said he will share with us when available. I don't envy the Customer Service People in Anniston tomorrow and I hope the server can handle the 1,000s of e-mails that shouldn't have been sent about carbines. I've seen (so far since the 29th of December) a number of threads, questions, comments, all designed to to try to wheedle out info that isn't ready to be given...please everyone leave the M1 Carbine questions (no matter how circular they are) alone...
On the other side of the coin; Tact and diplomacy are not family traits; in 1991 the Coast Guard commissioned me as a Chief Warrant Officer. In 2001, after 10 years of being a CWO (and 20 enlisted) I retired as a CW04 (the Coast Guard has never adopted CWO5). Those of you who know what "Chiefs, Gunners, Warrants, or Chief Warrant Officers" are let the others know what they are; if all you guys can't start playing nicely (like the CMP Forums guidelines requests), then I will demonstrate (1) why the USCG made me a CWO and (2) show you just how good of a CWO I really was!!!! On another discussion board I belong to (and moderate) the original founder of the board (now assimilated into Military.com) always implored us (as I do now) to keep having fun! Fred Seigel, founder of Fred's Place (a Coast Guard themed website) was also a CWO4! So - keep having fun and save those questions until CMP is ready to answer them...don't forget, CMP lost a source of more weapons because of running mouths....now where the heck are the smilies? |

I've read where no slings come with the M1 Carbine..... so far.
I guess it also means no oilers too, since one is needed in order to attach the sling to the stock. EH?

Just what is an m-2 carbine anyway. If i remember any carbine can be made full auto with the installation of a removable mechanism, just like the m-14.

Hi Brian, If your state considers the M1 carbine to be an "assault weapon" and does not allow private ownership, I don't think you can expect them to allow private ownership of an M2 carbine. Since an M2 carbine is considered to be a class III firearm, I expect that the CMP will not have any available anyway. Rick
I know Rick. Maybe I phrased it the wrong way? I just want to know if all of the carbines that will be available are the M1 version...or if there will be a mix of M2s in the crates.

You really aren't making sense. An M2 is full auto and class III. If you state doesn't even allow the M1, they sure as hell aren't going to allow the M2.
Run for it? No, runnin' ain't a plan. Runnin' is what you do when a plan fails. |

Maybe he means the M1A1 parastock version? Too bad that CMP already stated that none of the carbines came with parastocks.
Garands are cool! |

| If there were any M2 Carbines returned to the Amry, they never would be released to the CMP. The Army is not authorized to trandfer full-auto weapons to the CMP. If a carbine with M2 parts made it past Army inspections I am sure the CMP would catch it and return it. That is the last thing any of us need is a "macine-gun" being tranfered to some one through the CMP. The anti-gun crowd would jump on that in a heartbeat. |

Would you guys all back off and leave Orest to do his job.
He's told us to wait. That means being quiet, sitting still, and not moving. Stop bugging them.

What I would like to know is whether or not any will be available at the stores or will we have to go through the ordering process? I live within an hour's drive of North....

Orest,
Will you have carbines at the south & north stores when they are released online?
I need to use an airline ticket and thought this might make for a good trip. |
