ARCADIA, OK – Randy Ent, 60, of Russell, PA, placed first in the Garand match (288-2X), out of 93 competitors and the new Modern Military rifle match (291-7X), locking up the overall championship in the CMP Games-Oklahoma 4-Gun event. Ent racked up a pair of fifth place finishes in the Springfield and Vintage Military Bolt rifle matches, contributing to an aggregate score of 1132-15X for the overall victory.

Randy Ent, of Russell, Pennsylvania, won the M1 Garand and Modern Military rifle matches, plus a pair of fifth place finishes in the Springfield and Vintage Military Bolt rifle matches enroute to winning the GSMM 4-Gun Aggregate at the 2013 CMP Games – Oklahoma.

It was the event’s second year, held at the Oklahoma City Gun Club, near Arcadia, northeast of Oklahoma City. Shooters from the Midwest and beyond participated in clinics, rifle and pistol competitions in a mix of rainy, near-freezing and sunny conditions, typical of spring in Oklahoma.

William Aten, 61, of Kingwood, TX, placed second in the 4-Gun with a total score of 1089-18X. Aten placed fourth in the new Modern Military match (282-7X) and fifth in the Garand match (282-5X). Larry Evans, Jr., 40, of Sikeston, MO, placed third in the 4-Gun with an aggregate score of 1075-15X. Evans posted a sixth place finish in the Vintage Military Bolt match.

Ent also won the traditional 3-Gun Aggregate title (Garand/Springfield/Vintage Military Bolt) with a combined score of 841-8X, in an X-ring tie-breaker over Kent Shomber, 53, of Edmond, OK, who fired an 841-5X. Harold Pate, 51, of Fort Worth, TX, took third place, one point back at 840-16X. Shomber’s and Pate’s performances in the Vintage Military and Springfield matches boosted their 3-Gun totals.

Pate won the Springfield match, among a field of 42 shooters, with an aggregate score of 290-10X, followed by Larry Stonecipher, 60, of Ada, OK, (278-4X) and Shomber (276-4X). Shomber won the Vintage Military Bolt Rifle Match (284-0X), followed by Pate (283-6X) and Stonecipher (282-5X), in a field of 32 competitors. Pate and Shomber did not fire in the Modern Military match.
John Marx, 60, of Conifer, CO, placed second in the Garand Match (286-6X) and John McLean III, 52, of Oxford, AL, placed third (285-9X).
James Fletcher, 62, of Whitney, TX, who fired a 283-9X in the Modern Military Rifle Match, placed second to Ent, and was followed by Jimmy Hamilton, 57, of Broken Arrow, OK, in a tie-breaker (283-7X).

Ent was the high senior shooter in Garand and Modern Military matches and Stonecipher was the high senior in the Springfield and Vintage Military Bolt rifle matches. Hayden Ramage, 18, of Bedford, TX, was the high scoring junior in his first-ever Garand Match (275-8X) and in the Modern Military Rifle Match.
The 4-Gun matches were fired during the five-day event which included individual and team pistol matches, a service rifle EIC match, an M1 Carbine match and a Vintage Sniper Rifle Team Match. The GSMM as it’s also known gives shooters an opportunity to shoot any combination of Garand, Springfield, Vintage Military Bolt and Modern Military rifle.

The series was fired four times in three days, giving shooters the opportunity to fire the same rifle four times (one for record and three as out of competition re-entries) or each rifle singly, or any other combination. The three-stage course of fire is the same for all four gun types - prone slow-fire, prone rapid-fire and standing; all fired at 200 yards.
