2010 Creedmoor Cup

CAMP BUTNER, NC – US Army SPC Sherri Gallagher fired a 796-44X aggregate with her Tubb 2000 match rifle chambered in .260 to lead all shooters in the Creedmoor Cup 80-shot match at the 2010 Eastern Creedmoor Cup Matches, hosted by the North Carolina Army National Guard 12-16 May.

The Creedmoor Cup course of fire included 20 shots standing slow fire at 200 yards, sitting rapid fire at 200 yards, prone rapid fire at 300 yards and prone slow fire at 600 yards for a possible 800 points. SPC Gallagher posted scores of 198-9X, 200-14X, 200-7X and 198-14X in each phase, respectively.

Competitors are classified as match or service rifle shooters.

Rounding out the top two places in match rifle were SSG Armando Ayala, USA, who fired a 791-35X and Douglas Morrison with a 782-26X.

The high service rifle shooter was SGT Ty Cooper, USA, who fired a 791-25X, as SFC Grant Singley, USA, posted a 788-46X to take second and SFC Lance Dement, USA, won the third spot with an overall aggregate score of 787-27X.

The five-day event was concluded with an Excellence in Competition (EIC) match that featured a service rifle shoot-out between US Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) shooters SSG Brandon Green and SFC Grant Singley, each of whom fired 495 out of a possible 500 points, with SSG Green winning the tie-breaker with 23X, eclipsing SFC Singley’s 17X. Army SPC Kevin Trickett fired a 492-20X to capture third place in the service rifle class.

In the EIC match rifle group, Danny Gray led all shooters with a 483-13X followed by MAJ William Miller, USA, with a 412-4X and William Ellis placing third with an aggregate total of 408-7X.

The top ten percent of eligible service rifle shooters received EIC leg points which are credited to the shooters’ accumulated totals toward a Distinguished Rifleman Badge.  A total of 107 eligible shooters competed for the 11 legs awarded.  The following EIC points were awarded:

In four-person team competition, USAMU Praslick won the service rifle championship with an aggregate score of 1957-80X. Shooting members of the team were SGT Ty Cooper (494-24X), SSG Brandon Green (491-16X), SPC Augustus Dunfey (487-19X) and SFC Grant Singley (485-21X).

USAMU Praslick, coached by SFC Emil Praslick, took top honors as the High Overall Service Rifle Team.

Second place went to USAMU Heuman, coached by Donald Heuman and fired by SPC Kevin Trickett, SSG Tobie Tomlinson, SSG Scott Grant and SFC David Steinbach. Third place honors were won by All Guard Morgan, coached by MSG George Morgan (ARNG) and fired by guardsmen SPC Cody Shields, SSG Charles Spiker, 2LT Ryan Kuhn and MAJ J.R. Treharne.

Virginia Shooting Sports Association won the match rifle class with an aggregate score of 1929-58X. Team members included Douglas Morrison (491-18X), Jerrel Neuhaus (485-18X), William Ellis (479-14X) and MAJ Geoffrey Bull (474-8X). The team was captained by Michael Jamison.

High Match Rifle Team was Virginia Shooting Sports Association firing a 1929-58X.

Team second place honors went to Virginia Gray’s, with firing members Danny Gray, Nathaniel Guernsey, Chuck Pistole and Peter Shortsleeves. The third place finisher was Florida Boys with firing members Frank Cernese, Thomas Inman, Robert Hathcox and Thomas Brusherd.

The Creedmoor Cup Matches began with a free highpower shooting clinic on Wednesday conducted by members of Team Remington and featured lectures and demonstrations by some of the world’s leading highpower service rifle competitors. The clinic also featured hands-on coaching along with dry-fire training.

The clinic was followed by a practice match on Thursday and the four-person team matches on Friday. A BBQ dinner, co-sponsored by Remington, will was held Saturday evening with awards and participation prizes distributed.

In addition to the matches, more than $4,000 was raised during the event to support Wounded Warriors. The proceeds will be used to send several wounded veterans to Camp Perry for the National Matches this year. Thanks go to the organizers and supporters who made the fundraising drive a big success!

The matches were held in conjunction with the CMP’s Eastern Games Matches conducted earlier in the week.
