Chichkov and Zimmerman Lead Juniors as Franks and Mango Dominate Overall CMP Trophy Pistol Matches

CAMP PERRY, OH – Junior pistol shooters Alexander Chichkov and Glenn Zimmerman were tops in their age group and Patrick Franks, Jr. and Robert Mango led the overall ranks in the CMP President’s Pistol and National Trophy Individual Pistol matches fired here on 14 July.
Alexander Chichkov, of Tampa, Florida, won the prestigious Junior President’s Pistol Match Trophy with an aggregate score of 369-4X. The 19-year-old also placed second in the Junior National Trophy Individual Match.

Perry DeFino Trophy with a total score of 283-11X out of 300, which signifies the high scorer in the Individual Pistol match for juniors. All junior pistol matches were fired with .22 caliber pistols.
Glenn Zimmerman, of Waterville, Ohio, won the G.P. Perry DeFino Trophy with a total score of 283-11X out of 300, which signifies the high scoring junior in the National Trophy Individual pistol match. Presenting the DeFino Trophy plaque is U.S. Army National Guard SGM Robert Stanek.

In junior pistol, Chichkov was followed in the Junior President’s standings by Brian Hughes, 18, of Glens Falls, NY, for second place with a score of 355-4X. Walker Buckman, 17, of Lovettsville, VA, placed third (352-7X).

In the junior NTI rankings, Chichkov placed second to Zimmerman with an aggregate score of 276-6X. Brett Tucker, 16, of North Canton, OH, placed third with a 274-8X.
U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit SSG Patrick Franks, Jr., won the President’s Pistol Match with an aggregate score of 388-19X. Franks scored a 192-8X in the slow fire stage at 50 yards and followed with scores of 97-5X and 99-6X in timed fire and rapid fire, respectively.

His score was five points behind teammate SSG James Henderson’s 393-17X who set the record in 2009.
In the National Trophy Individual Pistol Match, MSG Robert Mango captured the General Custer Trophy in a tiebreaker, 290-15X to SSG Franks’ 290-9X. Presenting the trophy plaque to Mango is Assistant Adjutant General, BG John Harris, Ohio National Guard.

SSgt Jonathan Shue of the U.S. Marine Corps, placed second with an aggregate score of 386-17X, followed by MSG Mango, U.S. Army Reserve, who fired a total score of 386-12X. SSG Henderson placed seventh in this year’s contest with an aggregate total of 379-17X.
Judy Tant, of East Lansing, MI, was the high woman in the President’s Pistol Match, compiling an aggregate score of 358-8X. Presenting the trophy plaque is Dennis Willing, Director of the NRA Competitive Shooting Division.

In the National Trophy Individual Pistol Match, MSG Mango and SSG Franks swapped places from the President’s match with Mango winning the General Custer Trophy via tiebreaker, 290-15X to Franks’ 290-9X. U.S. Army Reserve SFC Keith Sanderson placed third in the NTI with an aggregate of 289-9X.
Kathy Chatterton, of Glen Rock, New Jersey, won the National Woman’s Trophy as high woman in the NTI, scoring a 270-5X and winning by tiebreaker over Judy Tant, who fired a 270-2X.

The following competitors were awarded NTI trophies for high scoring in each of the following categories:

• MSgt Dean Grant, ANG, General Curtis LeMay Trophy (USAF) 259-5X
• SSG Timothy Barber, ARNG, National Guard Assn. Trophy 281-8X
• MSG Robert Mango, USAR Memorial Trophy 290-15X
• Thomas Willats, Citizen’s Military Pistol Trophy (Civilian) 285-9X
• Steve Reiter, Senior Pistol Trophy 282-7X

In team competition, the winner of the Gold Cup Trophy (overall winner) went to USAMU Blue, comprised of SSG Franks (287), SPC Greg Markowski (285), SFC James Henderson (284) and SSG Michael Gasser (278). Their team score was 1134-38X.
Tom Allen, 38, of Charleston, West Virginia, enjoyed another trip to the NRA and CMP pistol matches at Camp Perry. Allen earned his Distinguished Pistol Shot Badge in 2011 and reached the President’s 100 last year.

In second place, Ohio Rifle & Pistol Association (ORPA) fired a score of 1104-25X. Team members were James Lenardson, Brian Zins, 43, of Girard, OH, Alan Barcon, 37, of Valley View, OH, and James Morman, 41, of Wakeman, OH. Third place went to USAR Black, fielded by SFC Keith Sanderson, MSG Robert Mango, MSG Robert Kolesar and LTC Gregory Pieper, with a team score of 1103-28X.
In team competition, the winner of the Gold Cup Trophy (overall winner) went to USAMU Blue, comprised of SSG Franks (287), SPC Greg Markowski (285), SFC James Henderson (284) and SSG Michael Gasser (278). Their team aggregate score was 1134-38X.

As the high civilian team, ORPA was awarded the Oglethorpe Trophy and USAR Black earned the U.S. Coast Guard Memorial Trophy, which is awarded to the top Reserve component team.
Ottawa Sportsman Club Junior team of Lisa Emmert, of Houghton, Michigan, and Jacob Tuomi, of Chassell, Michigan, won the Junior Team Trophy Match and was presented with the Riding in High Places Trophy by U.S. Army National Guard SGM Robert Stanek.

The Junior Team Trophy Match was won by the Ottawa Sportsman Club Junior team of Lisa Emmert, 17, of Houghton, MI, and Jacob Tuomi, 18, of Chassell, MI, scoring a team aggregate of 546-8X. The Emmert and Tuomi team’s name will be added to the 2013 Riding the High Places Team Trophy.

The Texas State Rifle Association (TSRA) Juniors Gold placed second with a total score of 544-12X. TSRA Juniors Gold was represented by Zachary Hedrick, 20, of Boerne, TX, and Nathanael Molder, 20, of Santo, TX. ORPA Orange placed third with a team score of 516-10X. Team members are Brett Tucker and Bryce Tucker, 18, both of North Canton, OH.
