The Second M16 EIC Match Successfully Completed

By Sommer Wood, Staff Writer/Editor

The National Trophy Matches M16 EIC Match was introduced for the first time in the 2004 National Matches. The match is only open to competitors that have never earned EIC credit points towards Distinguished badges. This allows new shooters to get a jump start towards earning points and to encourage shooters to start working towards earning their badge. All competitors are issued U.S. Army rack grade M16s. When they compete, they also benefit from coaching by members of the Army and Navy Rifle Teams. At the end of the match the top 10% earn four introductory EIC points and are on their way to earning the 30 points needed to receive distinguished badges.

The 2005 M16 EIC Match had 421 competitors. Anthony Graziano from Frackville, PA won the match with a score of 379-2x. He held a commanding lead six point lead over second place finisher TSgt Chad Leasure, USAF, who scored 373-9x. The estimated cut-off for shooters who will receive four EIC points is currently 360-4x.
