JROTC Postal Season Opens
Targets Can Now Be Ordered

By Katie Harrington, CMP Program Staff

The task of acquiring a spot in the 2010 JROTC Service Championships starts this week for JROTC cadets across the nation, as Army, Marine Corps, Navy and Air Force JROTC Cadets will begin preparations to compete in the 2009-2010 Air Rifle Postal Competitions.

The CMP's Competition Tracker will allow JROTC Instructors to register their teams and order targets.

This year, the CMP will again be using Competition Tracker for JROTC instructors to register teams and order targets for the postal. Once registered, cadets will each receive their three targets and instructions for firing the three position match on their home ranges. These targets will be specially marked by the CMP with the cadet’s information that will assist in the speedy scoring of these targets once returned. Like last year, CMP staff members will be using the Orion Visual Image Scoring system to verify and score targets. The targets will be scanned and digitally scored using the computer program. Scores from the postals will then be put on the CMP’s Competition Tracker Results page so that teams can see the results progress throughout the postal season.

Links to register for the Postals, as well as links to the Match Programs can be found at:

CMP Staff members will verify all targets after they are scored electronically by Orion, a Visual Imagining Scoring system.

There are a few important dates for the postals. From now until 20 November entries will be accepted. Once target sets are sent out to units, targets can be fired at any time, but must be postmarked by 4 December and received by 11 December to be included in this year’s results. Although scores will be posted online as they are scored, results become final on 18 December.

The function of this competition is to allow JROTC Units from across the country to participate in a national level competition as well as to qualify the teams and individuals for their respective Service Championships. Like last year, this year’s Service Championships will be held at the CMP Competition Center North located in Camp Perry, Ohio. This range is equipped with 80 electronic targets that display instant results of the competition. The results will also be posted live for online viewing. The Navy JROTC Service Championship will be held 11-13 February, and Army JROTC Service Championship will be held 18-20 February. Marine Corps and Air Force JROTC Service Championships will both be held 25-27 February.

The 2009 precision category was won by the Marine Corps team of East Coweta High School, Georgia with a score of 4626-252X.

The Service Championships will determine the top teams and individuals that will represent their service at the National JROTC Air Rifle Championship. New this year, the CMP will host this event 25-27 March at the CMP Competition Center South, located in Anniston, AL. This range also features electronic targets and live viewing of results, as well as spacious areas for competitors and spectators.

The 2009 Service Champions in sporter air rifle were the Navy Cadets from King George High School, Virginia with a score of 4253-122X.

Scores will continue to be updated as received and scored.
